The Southern Greater Glider are nocturnal, sleeping during the day high up inside hollow trees. They very rarely come down to the ground, so they can be quite hard to see. Like koalas, their diet is almost entirely eucalyptus leaves. They are the largest gliding possum, regularly flying 100m between trees! You may have noticed their huge fluffy ears- Hearing is crucial in a nocturnal environment, helping them identify potential predators in the dark. Some researchers also think their fluffy ears could be helpful in flight, aiding with balance and navigation.
