The Australian beetle genus Anoplognathus, are commonly known as Christmas Beetles because that’s the time of year they emerge from thr ground and start monching on eucalyptus! But they look Christmassy too-shiny like a bauble and are attracted to bright twinkling lights. ✨ They used to be very easy to find in the summer months, but lately people have noticed their populations decreasing. Climate change and habitat loss are suspected culprits as well as dry conditions. This year has been quite wet, so we hope their numbers increase this summer. If you’d like to be a citizen scientist and help count the Christmas Beetles you see, check out the Beetle count happening in your area!
These Christmas Beetle Sweaters are a very limited batch. We had some fun making their shiny bodies 3D with metallic threads details.
