What’s better than one black cockatoo? All five of Australia’s incredible black cockatoo species together!
 
This design celebrates the stunning diversity of Australia’s black cockatoos — from the tiny, quiet Glossy Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus lathami), to the endangered Carnaby’s (Zanda latirostris) and critically endangered Baudin’s (Zanda baudinii), both found only in Western Australia. The Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus funereus) is famous for its haunting calls drifting across forests and coastlines, while the Red-tailed Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus banksii) is loved for its dramatic colouring and beautiful speckled females.
 
Many black cockatoo species face serious threats from habitat loss, especially the loss of old trees needed for nesting hollows. Seeing flocks of these birds overhead is one of Australia’s most magical wildlife experiences — and one well worth protecting.
