Say hello to the tallest terrestrial animal in the world!

Living in Africa, Giraffes are from the family giraffidae they share with their cute cousins the Okapis. New DNA research has discovered there are four distinct species of giraffes, and at least a further five subspecies. They have unique markings between the species and like a human fingerprint, no two giraffes have the same pattern.

On top of their heads, giraffes have ossicones- two bone protrusions the males use to fight. These fascinating animals are declining in numbers due to many factors including habitat loss and poaching.
