Peacock spider males have these wildly coloured abdomens made of tiny scales. They lift their abdomens and begin their courtship dance. They vibrate their butts in dance moves so cutely named the rumble-rump, crunch rolls, and grind-rev. Then they clap their arms and make complex signals while they shimmy side to side. Peacock spiders have amazing vision, their 8 eyes can see the full visual spectrum as well as in UV! So the female definitely sees like a judge on Dancing with the Stars whether this male makes the cut. If not, she will signal she’s not interested and he will stop the dance before he attracts a predator’s attention, or if the male continues his dance when the female is not into it, she might attack and eat him.
