Elephants are the world’s largest living land mammal.  African elephants wander across 37 countries in Africa. They are listed as vulnerable with habitat loss and illegal poaching their main threats. Only 415,000 African elephants are estimated to exist in the wild.
An elephant’s trunk is so super useful. It has 40,000 muscles- compare that to only 639 in our entire bodies! Just imagine having a trunk! Elephants use them to communicate, breath, drink, eat, smell, and snorkel in the water! But wait there’s more. A trunk is literally so handy- it's used as the elephant’s hand to touch, feel, hold and pick things up. The trunk is so delicate they can wipe their eyes with it or peel a peanut, yet so strong it can rip out a tree trunk. Their sense of smell is bonkers too- estimated to be 4x better than a bloodhound’s. Look how long I’ve gone on about just their trunks! There’s still the entire rest of them that is totally amazing. Elephants are incredibly intelligent and emotional. Do you love elephants too? Please tell me more elephant facts because they’re just so wonderful and I didn’t even get to their ears yet.
