OK we are back! For all of you who missed out here is a very limited second run of wombats!
Wombats are found in Australia, in lots of different landscapes. They need to be tough to survive harsh conditions. With their big claws and rodent teeth, they dig long, complex burrow systems, where they can escape the sun and sleep. Even their fuzzy butts are tough, mostly being made out of cartilage. When they feel threatened they can dive head first into their burrow, the predator having to deal with a bony butt. Wombat’s underground systems have become very important to other animals. Smaller creatures including penguins, butterflies and wallabies take shelter from the sun and bushfires in the burrows. Sharing is caring! Wombats are marsupials. They have a backwards-facing pouch so that when they dig their burrows they don’t get dirt all over their babies-very considerate.
